In 1989 my family moved from a small town in North Idaho to the Lewis & Clark Valley, just below Hell’s Canyon. My teenage daughter soon developed a chronic ear infection. After treating her with antibiotics and anti-histamines the problem persisted, so we had her checked by a Naturopath. We were told she was allergic to the histamine containing caseins in milk. I replied that she had been drinking milk all her life and the only change was now we were buying milk in the store, since we no longer had a neighbor with milk cows. The doctor said “take her off store bought milk and her allergies will go away”, and they did immediately. He said the raw milk contained good bugs and was much easier to digest. He also told me to read the book Don’t Drink Your Milk, by Dr. Frank Oski.
This caused me to look for a milk alternative as we were drinking about 6 gallons per week. We were dissatisfied with the quality or taste of the whey or soy products we tried or the company that made them. My wife and I eventually started BestLife International, Inc. Over the course of time and a long story of fact finding and entrepreneurial endeavor, we marketed several brand names and developed several private label formulas before we changed the name of our product line to Sammi’s Best™ after our grand daughter Samantha, (the little girl in the S). It turned out to be a good name for people remember.
I was fortunate in finding one of the best food technologist/chemist in the Country and made him a partner in the company. Our R & D capability is second to none, as demonstrated by leading edge technology and better tasting, easier to digest and more nutritious products. We have received hundreds of testimonials from loyal customers who have switched to Sammi’s Best™ from other brands on the market.
Our product genealogy incorporates a number of healthy innovations. We were one of the first to conscientiously quit using hydrogenated oils. We listed trans-fats on our label over ten years before being required by the FDA. We use only water extracted (hexane free) soy, were among the first companies to order Non-GMO ingredients and have helped several large food suppliers develop new products.
